SCOPE
Primary Upgrading Operations is seeking an enthusiastic Process Technician to join their team. The Process Technician will have the opportunity to build their career in the Oil Sands by monitoring, operating, adjusting and maintaining processing units within Primary Upgrading Operations.


The specific units that form part of Primary Upgrading are the following:
• Diluent Recovery Unit (comparable to a Crude Unit).
• Delayed Coking Unit.
• Amine Unit, Sour Water Treatment, Incinerator, and Flare.
• Sulphur Recovery Unit.
• Tail Gas Treating Unit (SCOT Unit).


MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Learn the layout, purpose and operating parameters of units within Primary Upgrading
Operations.
• Operate, monitor, adjust and maintain process equipment and may rotate between different processing units.
• Participate in process start-ups, shut-downs and isolation's as well as preparing process units and equipment for routine maintenance.
• Troubleshooting and problem solving in an operational environment.
• Authorize or co-sign maintenance work orders.
• Sample products, perform tests, record data and maintain a log of process conditions, changes and upsets.
• Learn and implement standard operating procedures.
• Participate in safety audits and safety programs and maintain a safe work environment.


QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:
Education & Experience:
• Completion of secondary school (or equivalent) required.
• Minimum Alberta Certified Fourth Class Power Engineer preferred.
• A college diploma in process operation or related subjects an asset.
• Previous refinery, petro-chemical, sour gas plant or oil sands upgrading experience beneficial, with emphasis placed on Diluent Recovery Unit, Delayed Coking Unit, Amine.
• Unit, Sour Water Treatment, Sulphur Recovery Unit and/or Tail Gas Recovery Unit experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).


PERSONAL QUALITIES:
• Demonstrated interest in learning the processes and equipment used in Primary Upgrading Operations.
• Willing to share your knowledge and experience with your coworkers, yet equally willing to listen to their ideas.
• Successful at “thinking outside the box” to come up with ideas for plant and process improvement.
• Proven mechanical skills and technical knowledge and enjoys troubleshooting and problem solving.
• Upbeat and self-motivated with a strong desire to build your career as a Power Engineer.

• Comply with all Health and Safety Requirements established by Canadian Natural Resources Limited.
• Know and comply with all regulations and legislative requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act for the Province of Alberta and environmental standards.
• Follow safe work procedures and ensure all personnel comply.
• Report any injury or illness immediately.
• Report unsafe acts and conditions.
• Ensure Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is available and is worn where and when required.
