POSITION SUMMARY

Scope:
The Paramedic Fire Fighter responds to all emergencies, assesses and applies the appropriate fire, rescue, and medical protocols including medical aid for approximately 10,000 core and contractor employees on site.

Key Areas of Contribution:

The Paramedic Fire Fighter is responsible for all duties pertaining to Fire, Rescue, Emergency, and Environmental hazards according to policies, standards, codes of practice, procedures and work practices.

Specific Accountabilities:
- Ensures effective emergency response by providing professional application of skills and techniques at the emergency scene
- Responds to critical care needs associated with construction, operations and camp activities through both day and night shifts
- Provides leadership and training to operations Fire and Rescue team members and provides input into the effectiveness of the program
- Interfaces with site Medical Services and off-site medical providers
- Makes fire code inspections of site facility infrastructure and prepares pre-fire plans

Additional Areas of Involvement:

- Mentoring EMT’s and EMR’s
- Participates in continuous training and instruction programs through individual study of technical material and attendance at scheduled training drills
- Assists in maintaining and repairing fire and emergency medical apparatus and equipment

Qualifications for this Position
Education and Experience
- Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and International Trauma Life
Support (ITLS)
- Canadian Medical Association (CMA) accredited paramedic program or equivalent and hold current provincial registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics at the EMT-P level
- Valid Alberta Driver’s License Class 3 & 4 with airbrake endorsement and a clean driver abstract
- Proficient in MS Office
- Minimum of 3 -5 years of Paramedic experience
- Equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered

Assets (or must be willing to train to the following levels)

- Firefighter Level 1 & II
- NFPA 1001
- NFPA 1081 Interior Structural
- NFPA 1003 Airport Firefighter
- NFPA 1002 Apparatus operator
- NFPA 472 Technician Level
- NFPA 1031 Fire Inspectors Training Level I
- NFPA 1035 Public Educator Level I
- NFPA 1041 Fire Service Instructor Level I
- ITLS Instructor status
- Previous experience with a public ambulance service, in heavy industry, mining, oil and gas production or oil sands industry

The location of this position will be the Horizon Oil Sands Project located north of Fort McMurray, Alberta.
