Business OverviewSuncor Energy Inc. pioneered the development of Canada’s oil sands using surface mining techniques. But of the estimated 300 billion barrels of recoverable bitumen (heavy oil) contained in the vast Athabasca deposits, only about 10 per cent is accessible through surface mining.In-situ technology gives Suncor an additional way to tap into the potential 11 billion barrels of oil on our Athabasca leases, adding to the growing production from our traditional mining operations. Our in-situ development activities support the long-term goal set out in Suncor’s growth strategy: to double our current production of petroleum products to reach a total of 500,000 to 550,000 barrels per day by 2010 to 2012.Our growth = significant career opportunity for youPosition Outline:Reporting to the Manager, Firebag Business Services, the candidate will be integral participants in estimating and control of the Commissioning & Start-up (C&SU) costs, supporting the organization in fulfill deliverables established in the Suncor Project Implementation Manual (SPIM) for C&SU.Key Accountabilities:Working with the Firebag Growth Planning & Development team, you will support and provide direction in processes and business practices to ensure the overall project (estimating, cost control, progress and performance measurement and forecasting) objectives are achieved.- Will work closely with the Project Controls specialist for the preparation, quality and accuracy of project reports in SAP and Monthly reports
- Support Project Controls Specialist maintaining Project Breakdown Structure and the creation of Network Activities in SAP
- Preserve “up to date” staffing plan for the different C&SU projects
- Prepare and follow up Project Change Notification process
- Help the organization completing SPIMactivities and gather documentation for gates review
- Insure C&SU information and data are stored in Livelink
- Review contractor invoices to confirm they are in accordance with the contract and purchase order
- Willing to work at Firebag siteQualification Requirements:Relevant Technical diploma/University degree with minimum of two years of engineering and construction project controls experience or appropriate combination of education and experience.- Knowledge of SAP will be definitively an asset.- Strong analytical, interpretive, organizational and problem solving skills
- MS Office experience will be an asset
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Provides liaison and guidance to project leads and teams on matters related to planning and scheduling
- Conduct site visits to review schedule reporting
- Support team activities and make recommendations/suggestion

- This position is based at our Firebag in-situ operation, located 40 kilometres northeast of Suncor's original oil sands plant.
- Work Schedule: The position is a temporary Calgary based up to April 2009, then permanent assignation to Firebag Site
- Firebag: Using a technique called Steam-Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD), we are injecting steam into deep oil sands deposits through underground wells.
