Accountability:The Senior Electrical Engineer shall be responsible for completion of electrical work and assisting the lead electrical engineer with supervising system studies, estimates, scheduling, and review of project documents.The senior electrical engineer shall assist with auditing the technical quality of the completed electrical engineering work, devise methods to improve the quality of the design and productivity of the electrical group.Responsibilities:- Prepare and modify electrical design basis including selection of power distribution basis.
- Assist with the preparation of electrical engineering budgets estimates and for approval.
- Prepare and recommend electrical standards and specifications for use on the project.
- Complete key electrical engineering project documents including system studies, single lines, area classification, and equipment layouts
- Manage interface with electrical utility provider, and other Suncor business units.
- Review and support preparation of project electrical material takeoffs.
- Define and evaluate site grounding investigation program.
- Evaluate technical deviations, present technical deviations recommendations to stakeholders and approve or reject deviations.
- Report time expenditure on electrical engineering execution and evaluate progress.
- Prepare and recommend in definition of shop and field quality assurance inspection requirements.
- Assist with preparation & updating of electrical engineering schedule.
- Provide mentoring for junior electrical engineers and designers.
- Participate in the development of the detailed engineering work packages (EWP).
- Participate in the review of all package equipment specifications.
- Participate in the development of the construction work packages (CWP).
- Provide feedback on performance assessment of direct reports.
- Review technical standards/specifications and recommend changes for improvements.
- Participate and provide input to Hazop analysis and Model reviews.Education and Experience:- A degree in electrical engineering and eligible for registration as a professional engineer.- A minimum of 8+ years detail engineering experience with increasing level of responsibility.
- Have acted as an intermediate engineer on a mid-level/major project and been responsible for preparing electrical engineering design recommendations to a lead electrical engineer.- Posess a wide knowledge in various fields of electrical engineering including power distribution, HV transmission lines and substatrons, VFD/Soft Start selection, grounding lighting, and lightning protection calculations, electrical load and harmonics analysis, and equipment specification.- Capable of analyzing a field problem and recommending a timely resolution.- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
