POSITION SUMMARY

Scope:

This is an exciting professional opportunity for you to be a critical member of our Production Reporting team as we start production in 2008. You will gain insights into mining, extraction and upgrading from working with the production engineers in our oil sands facility. Your challenge will be to participate in the design and operation a “first class” integrated mass balance and production reporting system. You will become familiar with state of the art application systems such as Lab Information Management Systems, Mine Fleet Management Systems, Pi Historian and MI3. Working with area Process Engineers and management to capture our production information needs, you will design, develop and test modifications and reports. You will be responsible for training the first generation of users on our integrated mass balance system.

This role will prepare you well for transition into the production areas as a Plant Process Engineer or career growth in our Information Technology department. While other producers are more established, you will be starting at the dawn of the Horizon Facility, with all the career growth opportunities that that entails.


Specific accountabilities:

• Help meet the area’s information and reporting needs with respect to production, mass and energy balance data
• Work with engineers, team members and decision makers to develop accurate, timely and relevant reports and on-line inquiries
• Participate in the development and maintenance of the production reporting system
• Review system data integrity reports and provide analytical support to the business and the production reporting team
• Implement and test new production system reports and functionality
• Train users on the existing and new system functionality to facilitate knowledge transfer to the area
• Work with core feeder systems such as Laboratory Information Management System, Mine Fleet Management System and
Pi Historian
• Investigating and resolving data integrity issues in coordination with various groups
• Input corrected data into the data historian
• Identify and create soft sensor formulas as required

Qualifications:

• Knowledge in mass and energy balance computations
• Experience with Matrikon “MI3” application would be an asset
• Experience providing technical application training
• Refinery and / or mining related experience
• 2+ years of previous IT implementation and support experience with production reporting software
• Strong Process Engineering skills


Educational Requirements:

• A Chemical Engineering Degree with a strong background in Information Technology or
previous experience working in a technical engineering environment

Location:

This position is based on our Horizon Site located 70km north of the city of Fort McMurray.
