Expansion and opportunity are words you hear often at Suncor.Our growth = significant career opportunity for youDescription of AccountabilityReporting to the Program Manager - Oil Sands EHS, the Safety Specialist (Quality Management Plans / Radiation Safety is accountable to:
• Provide EHS leadership, influence and expertise on matters pertaining to Alberta Safety Codes (Quality Management Plans) and Radiation Safety
• Administer Oil Sands Quality Management Plan and act as the subject matter expert in relation to Alberta Safety Codes
• Coordinate the Oil Sands Radiation Safety Program and act as the subject matter expert in relation to the Nuclear Safety and Control Act (NSCA) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC).• Liaise with Suncor functional leads within the disciplines of Building, Electrical and Fire Codes.• Assist in the pre-mobilization process for contractors executing work within the confines of the Radiation Safety or Quality Management Plan programs.• Assist the safety specialist – contractor management with EHS contractor approvals and the ongoing collaboration with contractors involved in Radiation Safety and Quality Management Plan program execution.
• Monitor legislative requirements and update Suncor programs, standards and training to ensure effective execution of said programs.• Coordinate training and work to enable business area coordinator competence.• Provide general awareness training and to relevant front line employees and contractors.• Plan, coordinate and execute due diligence audits of the Radiation Safety and Quality Management Plan programs as per legislative requirements.• Assist in the development of corrective action plans from audits and assessments.• Conduct workplace observations to ensure effective execution of Radiation Safety and Quality Management Plan programs.• Represent EHS in supply chain led contractor performance review and evaluation meetings where applicable.• Assists Oil Sands in the execution of EHS Management System self assessments and audits as required.
• Provides regular stewardship information to the Program Manager Oil Sands Safety for discussion and communication at the EHS area team and within specific populations within Oil Sands management.• May participate or support RRI and II incident investigations and corresponding root cause failure analysis with respective to Radiation Safety and Quality Management Plan programs.• To liaise with regulatory authorities for the ongoing licensing requirements and interpretation of the various regulationsExperience and Education RequirementsApplicants must have Grade 12 along with a College diploma or University degree in a related discipline
• 5 years of industrial experience in an EHS role
• Recognized professional certification in the EHS discipline (CRSP) is considered an asset
• Experience in radiation safety and Alberta Safety codes is considered an asset
• Experience in Auditing systems
• Formal Risk Assessment training• Excellent communication, facilitation, investigation and problem solving skills
• Excellent computer skills, including data analysis abilities.
