Construction is underway for the next phase of oil sands growth, which is expected to deliver production capacity of 350,000 barrels per day in 2008, growing in stages to a goal of up to 550,000 barrels per day in 2010 to 2012.Projects are currently underway in Fort McMurray, Calgary, Sarnia and Denver.THE POSITIONWe are looking for one Mechanical Engineering student who has completed at least two years of engineering studies from an accredited university recognized by APEGGA to join the Major Projects Group, specifically assigned to the Voyageur Upgrader project based in Calgary.The position would be of interest to students planning to pursue a career in the field of Mechanical / Metallurgical Engineering.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe position will provide support to current efforts of the Mechanical team and will report to the Lead Mechanical Engineer of the Voyageur Upgrader project.Duties will be varied and could include:• A team player in a project environment.
• Strong problem solving, communication and organizational skills.
• The ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• The ability to pay attention to detail and stress on perfection of work.
• Assisting with all Mechanical / Metallurgical engineering related activities e.g. material selection, data sheets, design calculations etc. to assure quality.
• Various duties as may be assigned by the Suncor Discipline Engineer(s) on the Voyageur project.
• Specification review and provide analysis.• Responsible to co-ordinate the TDNs for the Voyageur project.QUALIFICATIONSThe successful candidate is a third or fourth year engineering student who is a proactive team member and demonstrates superior interpersonal skills, as well as analytical and problem solving capabilities.The candidate should have excellent computer skills, including experience with common office application software.Please provide a transcript with your application.Suncor is committed to employment equity and encourages applications from all qualified individuals.Check out our web site at www.suncor.com for more information about our company.
