Our Denver office has immediate needs for Project Engineers (Electrical and Controls) who are experienced in aspects of large bulk material handling equipment, such as is found in the mining and cement industries. All these technical positions require current hands-on experience with electrical and control systems design.
Rutter Hinz Inc. is a highly respected engineering firm leading the way in the management, design, programming, and commissioning of medium to large material handling system projects for major industrial clients. The Rutter Hinz Denver office has been servicing the Rocky Mountain Region for over 14 years and in industry since 1971. Our staff works with the latest technologies, applying innovative and creative thinking to provide solid engineering solutions to our clients. We continue to experience solid market growth, and are looking for personnel who are experienced in power system, control/automation system, PLC, HMI, network, and communications design.
Our Material Handling project work includes the follow process aspects:
Overland conveyors
Belt conveyors
Tube conveyors
Ship loaders/ship unloaders
Stackers
Reclaimers
Excavators
Crushers
Bulk storage and retrieval systems
PLC, HMI, DCS, and OIT architecture design and software programming
Project commissioning, startup, and training
Generation of project documentation
Other aspects of electrical/controls as necessary
Successful candidates will be expected to handle a wide-range of project responsibilities, requiring the following technical skills and experience:
General principles of equipment operation and operating environment
Specification of controls and instrumentation for materials handling projects
Drawing design for P&ID's, electrical and instrumentation interconnections, power and control schematics, system layout, system design, etc.
Design of safe electrical systems
Familiarity with low voltage and medium voltage systems
Familiarity with variable frequency drives
Familiarity with electrical standards such as NEC and IEC, lighting, riser diagrams, and cable/conduit schedules
Generalist skills in both PLC and HMI configuration
Field troubleshooting and commissioning skills for large materials handling equipment
Field testing of control systems and project field commissioning, including formal and informal training on configuration, maintenance, and operations of automation systems
A willingness to participate in international travel to client offices and project jobsites.
Generation of associated project documentation
Project scope definition and cost estimating for industrial clients
Current experience with electrical system design, instrumentation, PLC systems, HMI configuration, instrumentation and power distribution for a variety of materials handling systems.
Ability to lead, motivate, and work within a technical team environment
Ability to apply the latest technologies and methodologies to the design stages at the onset of the project, by applying independent thinking and visionary design
Ability and willingness to execute projects according to a Rutter Hinz defined Project Execution Methodology
Proficiency with customer interface, fiscal responsibility, and adherence to project schedule, budget and manpower planning.
Structured control system design experience, with a structured approach to problem solving and project execution
Organizational and time management skills
Proficiency in both written and oral communication
Proficiency with computer operating systems, networks and electronic information handling
Proficiency with a variety of Microsoft applications including Outlook, Excel, Access, Word, Visio, Projects, and PowerPoint
We are located in a new Rutter Hinz-owned building in Highlands Ranch (southwest corner of Denver), one of the fastest growing suburban areas of the US. The office is quickly accessible to major freeways and transportation arteries. Quality of life in Highlands Ranch is high, with an abundance of new housing, shopping, restaurants, entertainment, and a wide array of other services.
We prefer 5 or more years of technical experience, but will seriously consider all outstanding candidates. An engineering degree would be a benefit, but not a requirement. An organized approach to problem solving, an attention for detail, a healthy work ethic, and an aptitude for computer/software are all essential.
Applicants must have superior oral and written communications skills in English. Knowledge of German would be beneficial, but not necessary.
