POSITION SUMMARY

The ideal candidate will have a post-secondary technical accreditation (i.e. applicable technological certificates from SAIT/NAIT), although a grade 12 education is suitable. A good understanding of pipeline operations, flow characteristics, and blending operations is an asset, as well as a good understanding of mechanical and control systems. Candidates will have the ability to remain calm under stressful situations and are able to prioritize incoming calls/requests. Strong verbal and interpersonal skills, good analytical skills and an ability to work reliably and effectively in an unsupervised environment, as well as good computer skills, particularly spreadsheet and word processing applications, are required. Familiarity with HMI graphics packages will be considered a definite asset. Candidates must be able to work shift work.

The Pipeline Control Centre Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of two independently operated heavy oil pipelines, controlled by a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system in Calgary.

The duties include but are not limited to the following:
?Controlling the pipeline flows from Producer??s batteries to terminal storage facilities;
?Operation of mainline and booster pumping stations;
?Controlling flows at oil terminals;
?Controlling blending operations at Producer??s batteries (LACT??s);
?Monitoring system pressures, flow rates, and product quality;
?Ensuring daily reports are prepared, reviewed, analyzed, and sent to Producer??s representatives as required;
?Interact with SCADA to identify operational concerns and take required proactive measures;
?Respond to ??system-generated?? alarms (ESD??s, etc);
?Maintain a good rapport with Producer??s battery operators;
?Communicate with pipeline field operations personnel to ensure safe, efficient operations;
?Ensure meter factors, product quality tests (density, BS&W) and instrumentation calibrations are entered correctly into the computers and/or spreadsheets;
?Maintain system information spreadsheets; and
?Assist Production and Marketing with analyses and trouble-shooting activities.
