PRIMARY JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Integrity Management
- Take a leadership role in helping Operations achieve the goals outlined in the Corporate Pipeline Integrity Management Manual;
- Maintain a current and accurate inventory of pipelines and license information;
- Complete risk assessments of all oil, gas and water pipeline systems and update them on an annual basis or more frequently as required;
- Provide technical support to Operations personnel with respect to the development, implementation, and management of internal/external pipeline corrosion prevention programs;
- Provide program design and support for pipeline discontinuation and abandonment programs;
- Initiate and coordinate in-line-inspection programs as required;
- Provide technical support for pipeline repairs;
- Act as field technical liaison for pipeline failure analysis investigations;
- Develop strategies for optimization and continuous improvement of pipeline integrity systems while controlling costs;
- Participate in developing standards and specifications for corrosion control;
- Participate in Industry functions to stay current with state-of-the-art corrosion control practices and new technology;
- Act as a liaison between jurisdictional regulators and Operations teams;
- Maintain and monitor compliance with provincial pipeline regulations;
- Communicate changes in pipeline legislation to Operations as required;
- Mentor junior pipeline integrity personnel as required;
- Complete monthly activity reports.
Internal Corrosion Control
- Design, develop, and optimize chemical programs with Vendors and Operations;
- Act as a resource to Operations teams on issues related to pipeline corrosion control effectiveness and monitoring;
- Conduct monthly reviews of chemical programs;
- Train, guide and assist Operating personnel as required in the application and/or maintenance of specialized chemical treating and corrosion control programs;
- Chair periodic chemical stewardship meetings with Vendors and Operations;
- Provide technical assistance and support for pipeline liner installations.
External Corrosion Control
- Coordinate and evaluate annual adjustive cathodic protection surveys and provide technical direction to Maintenance personnel as required during follow-up work;
- Provide evaluation, assessment, and recommendations during excavations to investigate external corrosion issues;
- Act as company technical liaison with respect to foreign pipeline tie-ins and issues related to cathodic protection;
- Assist with evaluation of right-of-way and river crossing inspections as required;
- Provide technical support as required during foreign pipeline-crossing inspections.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & SKILL SET:
· Bachelor??s Degree, Technology Diploma or equivalent;
· Minimum of 3 years related work experience;
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
· Progressive experience in corrosion control and pipeline operations;
· Excellent computer and analytical problem solving skills;
· Intermediate expertise in internal and external corrosion and the evaluation, monitoring and mitigation thereof;
· High awareness of safety compliance and adherence to company HS & E standards;
· Capable of working with minimum supervision and must demonstrate a proactive approach in the performance of the job responsibilities;
· Flexible and willing to travel to provide support ranging from a day to an entire week as deemed necessary;
· Must have and maintain a valid drivers license;
· May participate in facilities (tank / pressure vessel) inspections as required;
· May occasionally be required to perform duties in conjunction with Operations, which could result in non-standard work hours.
