As the newest oil sands company in more than 25 years, Albian Sands is a young, dynamic and growing company. Albian Sands is a part of the Athabasca Oil Sands Project (AOSP). The AOSP is a joint venture among Shell Canada Limited (60 %), Chevron Canada Limited (20%) and Marathon Oil Sands L.P (20%). The AOSP consists of the Muskeg River Mine north of Fort McMurray, the Scotford Upgrader near Edmonton and all supporting facilities such as pipelines and a cogeneration plant. As majority owner, Shell is the overall project administrator as well as operator of the Scotford Upgrader. Albian Sands Energy Inc., a company created by the joint venture, operates the Muskeg River Mine. As majority owner, Shell is responsible for the staffing and recruitment of Albian Sands. Albian Sands is currently seeking an Operations Accountant.
Responsibilities:
Completing monthly cost analysis by tracking current costs/prior accruals Completing daily cost actual, budget and forecast for AMT and Management Completing general and adjusting journal entries, as well as month end accruals where necessary and filing supporting documentation Generate monthly budget vs. actual reports and assisting with accountability package Preparing monthly detailed cost variance analysis reports for Management Reviewing month end costs directly with Management Preparing ad hoc cost reports and other requests for Management Attest invoices received from various vendors and contractors in terms of (approx. 200- 225 inv’s per month): Validate terms and conditions against current contracts and purchase orders Verify GST, withholding tax, holdbacks, customs and duties Determine appropriate charge coding, validate receipts provided for completeness and compliance, check calculations Follow up with vendor on discrepancies not incompliance with contract/purchase order Ensure appropriate approvals are in evidence (LEM) Ensure currencies are correctly reflected Circulate for approval according to Financial Authorities Keep records of invoices received, verified, in circulation and paid Track cumulative payments against a contract and purchase order and flag when funds needed to be added with business and Supply Chain Management Preparation of electronic worksheets for invoices exceeding 6 lines of coding to assist accounts payable department in Calgary Working with Supply Chain Management (SCM) when necessary to correct errors/make changes to Purchase Orders (PO’s) Data Entry relating to production hours and cost reconciliation for vendor invoicing – Mining Fleet contracts and tracking benchmarking Initiating PO additional fund requirements with SCM and the business when insufficient funds available to pay invoices Creating Financial Work Orders Verifying and approving Requests For Contract Services (RCS) for the business Completing all aspects of Accounts Receivable (A/R) when required Entering annual budgets into JDE
Requirements:
Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full time basis for anyone other than current employer. Dimploma or Degree (Accounting Major) 4 years work experience required Fluent Spoken and Written English Good analytical skills Ability to interpret contracts Knowledge of Albian’s accounting policies Excellent negotiation skills Excellent communication skills/interpersonal skills Well organized Strong Microsoft Office skills JDE One world html Business Objects
