*On the edge of the Arctic, in the heart of the wilderness, you will find Canada%26#39;s premier diamond producer, Diavik Diamond Mine. Located 300 kms northeast of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Diavik has been an open pit mine since 2003 and received approval for its underground project in 2007. Our underground mine is currently in development, is due to go into production in 2009 and has a mine life extending into 2023. Going forward, the main methods of mining the three kimberlite pipes will be underhand cut and fill and blast hole stope.

*Reporting to the Superintendent, Health Services, the Occupational Hygienist will be located at Lac De Gras Mine Site on two (2) week on/two (2) week off rotational basis. The incumbent is responsible for facilitating consolidation of the Rio Tinto Occupational Health Standards and providing occupational hygiene advise at Diavik%26#39;s surface and underground operations.

*The Occupational Hygienist, will be responsible for, but not limited to:
*%26bull; Support the business in consolidating the Rio Tinto global health standardsacross site,
*%26bull; Correspond with other Rio Tinto sites to share, develop and implement industrial hygiene best practices as they apply to Diavik,
*%26bull; Audit for compliance against business, corporate and legislative health standards,
*%26bull; Facilitate health risk assessments across the business,
*%26bull; Conduct statistical analysis and interpretation of relevant health %26amp; hygiene data on a six monthly basis,
*%26bull; Produce quarterly reports outlining monitoring results for that period.
!*!Above all, the successful candidate will be one whose #1 priority is safety in the workplace. The incumbent will have a Bachelor of Science or related degree in Occupational Helath/Hygiene with substantial experience in industrial hygiene, preferably within a mining or heavy industrial environment. Experience as a Surface Ventilation Officer for an underground mining operation is a asset. The incumbent must possess certification as an Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or be an accredited Registered Occupational Hygienst (ROH). Other combinations of education/experience may be considered.

An attractive roster is in place where you will work a total of 14 days every 28 day period.Commute employees are accommodated in a modern and comfortable site village incorporating ensuited rooms with arctic corridor connection as well as health and leisure facilities.
