Function/Purpose:
This position receives customer requests and complaints for City Bylaw infractions, Parking Tags, Permits, Licenses and Inspections and other related queries via telephone, e-mail or in person at the counter. It also addresses all complaints and inquiries as per departmental guidelines/policy including the associated financial processing, administrative tasks and responding to the customers. You will make recommendations and decisions on By-law matters and for development queries, prepare various legal documents including warrants for arrest and liaise with The City Solicitor in all prosecution cases. This position also participates in committees, prepares and presents reports and agendas for various committees, boards and council and represents the department in media interviews.
Job Requirements:
· Grade 12 with minimum 2 years related experience within a Municipal building and/or bylaws office or equivalent
· Knowledge of zoning bylaws, compliance certificates, construction terminology, construction/development plans and provincial court prosecution system.
· Ability to accurately type 30 wpm and input data into a computer working with various applications.
· Ability to understand and communicate various bylaws, acts, manuals, etc. as required.
· Ability to deal effectively face to face, over the phone and in writing with difficult customers as well a do media interviews.
· Ability to work as a team player and work independently with a high degree of accuracy and in accordance with policies and procedures.
· Demonstrate ability to manage time in a department where there are a wide range of issues and challenges and high volume of work with frequent interruptions and conflicting priorities and ensure that essentials tasks are completed with accuracy within rigid deadlines.
· Knowledge of The City’s financial computer system and the computer network.
· Knowledge of administrative, financial, records management and online procedures
· Current Alberta Driver’s License
· Commissioner for Oaths Designation and Peace Officer status must be attainable
· Ability to learn and apply various computer programs in day-to-day operations
· Understand and ability to communicate statistics or figures, zoning, development process, parking procedures, and make ongoing interpretations of the Land Use Bylaw, Traffic Bylaw, Community Standards Bylaw and other various bylaws.
· The ability to operate in a high paced organization to work with constant interruptions and daily timelines related to public expectations.
· Ability to complete internal & external education training courses relevant to the department
· Ability and creativity to take customer suggestions and provide internal feedback in order to enhance department and corporation procedures.

Hours of Work: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, based on 37.5 hours per week.
