POSITION DESCRIPTION
Plans and executes field investigations and drilling programs. Conducts designs for embankment dams and deep and shallow foundations. Undertakes seepage and slope stability analysis for cut slopes and dams. Prepares technical specifications and undertakes construction supervision of geotechnical issues for hydro and water resource projects.
Work involves all stages of projects, from feasibility to final detailed design, and includes new projects and rehabilitation and upgrade of existing facilities.
Works with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technologists to execute projects within budget and on schedule.
QUALIFICATIONS
-University graduate with degree in geotechnical engineering with a specialty in soil mechanics. Advanced degree is an advantage.
-Verbal communication capability and basic writing skills in English language.
-Proficiency in computer analysis for slope stability, seepage, as well as general spreadsheet applications.
-Experience in:
-Conceptual and Feasibility Studies of hydroelectric projects
-Layout of hydroelectric facilities, and design/analysis of embankment dams
-Assessment of geotechnical parameters and failure mechanisms for stability analysis of dams and other components of hydroelectric projects.
-Familiar with design requirements for shallow and deep foundations
-Seepage analysis and grout curtain design
-Rehabilitation and dam safety work.
-Field supervision at investigation and construction phases of projects.
