­­­­­­­­­­­­­­POSITION: Bitumen Production Engineering Co-op Student (2 positions available)


LOCATION: Horizon Oil Sands Plant Site located 70km North of Fort McMurray, AB


DISCIPLINE: 3rd or 4th year student enrolled in: Mining/Metallurgy/Mineral Processing or Chemical Engineering


TERM: 4, 8 or 12 month term beginning in January or May 2009


WORK SCHEDULE: 4 days on, 3 days off – 10 hour days




Key Area of Contribution:


Reporting to the Lead Process Engineer, the Co-op Student will be part of the process support group providing assistance to the areas of Ore Preparation, Extraction and Froth Treatment in various aspects of engineering for the Horizon Oil Sands Project.




Specific Accountabilities:


*Opportunities to assist and support engineers and operations in plant start-up responsibilities and assistance in various tasks associated with start-up


*Field work, data analysis and report writing for experimental programs


*Excel and database manipulation for the development and application of heat and material balances for the project


*Opportunities to assist and support in troubleshooting of live plant and/or optimization of the overall process




Experience:


*Solid computer skills, particularly in Excel


*Previous Co-op assignments in heavy industry, mining, oil and gas production or the oil sands industry would be an asset, but is not essential




WHAT WE OFFER:



  • Free transportation from your school location to the Horizon site at the beginning & end of the work term

  • You will share a two bedroom condo with another student in the town of Fort McMurray (rent, internet, cable TV & telephone paid for by Canadian Natural)

  • Free transportation to the Horizon site via bus

  • Students will work in site-based office & field construction settings in all weather conditions



NOTE - To be eligible to work on the Horizon Site you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test consistent with our Alcohol and Drug Policy, acquire an Alberta Construction Safety Association CSTS card and complete a Horizon Site Safety Orientation. .Must also hold a valid driver’s license (e.g. Alberta Class 5) and the successful candidate will be required to provide a Motor Vehicle driving record summary.
