Position Overview Reporting to the General Superintendent, the Electrical General Foreman is responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising the a group of skilled employees in the construction, operation, maintenance and repair of electrical distribution lines.
Key Responsibilities
* Plans, organizes, assigns, inspects and supervises the work of linemen and staff;
* Reads and interprets electrical plans and diagrams, electric codes and blueprints;
* Compiles material lists and keeps records; orders parts and materials for equipment repair;
* Oversees the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground electrical power lines and systems;
* Oversees the construction, operation, maintenance and repair of transmission and substation facilities;
* Issue appropriate personal protective equipment to workers as required;
* Monitor and enforce safety, health, environment and loss prevention programs, practices, polices and procedures by observations. Work with the foremen/crew to take corrective actions;
* Make recommendations on how to improve safety or manage safety performance issues;
* Participate in all training and conduct task specific safety, health, environment and loss prevention instruction (e.g. hazardous products). Ensure operators are qualified and fit to operate equipment;
* Verify all equipment has been inspected and approved for use;
* Develop and maintain good housekeeping standards;
* Ensure work is completed according to drawings and specifications. Do quality checks on the work completed by foremen sign off as completed dealing with deficiencies;
* Supervise the foremen, including recruiting, training, coaching, managing performance, supervise sub-contractors;
* In conjunction with the Safety Officer, conduct preliminary investigations of reported incidents/accidents and report results to the General Superintendent;
* Liaise between the site crews and administration/management;
* Assess how to reduce costs and increase productivity and work with the foremen to implement improvements;
* Work as a team with other Discipline Superintendents and Project Manager;
* Provide leadership and guidance to apprentice's.
Educational Requirements:·Must be a certified Red Seal Electrician;
Credentials/ Safety Requirements:
Experience:·Must have at least 5 years experience in a supervisory role in Industrial Construction;
·Must be able to supervise a crew of 50 or more;
·Demonstrated planning and scheduling experience;
·Intermediate use of Microsoft Word and Excel;
·Must have a strong understanding of safety procedures and policies that are required on an industrial job site;
·Experience working in an isolated environment is a definite asset;
