This position offers the opportunity to work with world class engineers and scientists that are dedicated to working on civil engineering projects in arctic environments, from conceptual to detailed design, through to construction and as-built reporting. The successful candidate will be responsible for geotechnical investigation, design and construction supervision of heavy civil engineering projects such as: dams, pipelines, building foundations, oil and gas infrastructure and other civil works mainly on large resource-based projects.
Within the scope of these projects, the successful candidate will collect and analyze geotechnical and permafrost data; design and develop specifications for civil earthworks structures; develop civil cost estimates; mentor junior staff; communicate with clients and subconsultants; and resource, schedule and manage projects to be on budget and on time. This position requires direct involvement with exciting large-scale projects in remote arctic locations, chiefly in Canadas three northern territories. As such, the successful candidates must be prepared to travel and be in the field for assignment intervals of three to four weeks at a time.
Qualifications:
Candidates should have minimum of five years experience, preferably in a consulting engineering practice or in resource-based industries such as mining or oil and gas. Construction project management experience is highly desired. The candidate must have a recognized degree in Civil, Mining or Geological Engineering. A graduate level degree in Geotechnical Engineering is preferred but not essential. Previous experience on northern arctic projects and knowledge of permafrost and its impact on design and construction of engineered structures will be a definite asset. Applicant must be eligible for registration as a professional with APEGGA, be legally entitled to work in Canada, and possess a valid Alberta Class 5 drivers licence (or equivalent).
