On the edge of the Arctic, in the heart of the wilderness, you will find Canada's premier diamond producer, Diavik Diamond Mine. Located 300 kms northeast of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Diavik has been an open pit mine since 2003 and received approval for its underground project in 2007. Our underground mine is currently in development, is due to go into production in 2009 and has a mine life extending into 2023. Going forward, the main methods of mining the three kimberlite pipes will be underhand cut and fill and blast hole stope.

Reporting to the Superintendent, Maintenance Planning, the Senior Planner, Fixed Plant will reside in Yellowknife, NT and will work at the Lac De Gras Mine Site on a four (4) days on / three (3) days off rotational basis. The incumbent is responsible for long-term maintenance planning including maintenance contracts, overhauls and refurbishments, maintenance optimization, reliability of equipment, and the overall continuous development of the Maintenance and Reliability programs to ensure maximum availability.

The Senior Planner,Fixed Plantwill be responsible for, but not limited to the following:

  • Developing appropriate scopes of work, frequency and schedules for specialized labour contracts and estimate costs for budgeting purposes;
  • Maintaining the list of plant and equipment provided to Asset Management for maintenance;
  • Reviewing and preparing standard maintenance procedures and budget;
  • Ensuring that all manuals and prints are up-to-date and available;
  • Developing life cycle schedules and maintenance milestones as well as documentation on major refits of equipment;
  • Developing standard jobs for major refurbishment projects complete with forecasted parts lists;
  • Maintaining equipment run schedules for major equipment in order to spread refurbishment/overhaul work;
  • Compiling budget estimates for major work and ensuring that they are included in the yearly budgets;
  • Filling in for the maintenance planners including filing of check and time sheets and completed work orders and review of work requests, leading planning meetings and running the weekly committals;
  • Leading the Preventive Maintenance Optimization thrust, regularly reviewing and optimizing standard jobs;
  • Developing and managing the maintenance and reliability program by determining the specific maintenance work required to maximize availability of equipment (95% or better) at a minimum cost and minimum unplanned maintenance(less than 10% of all work);
  • Preparing reports and timelines as required.

Above all, the successful candidate will be one whose #1 priority is safety in the workplace. The incumbent will hold a Journeypersons certificate in an applicable field along with five (5) or more years of experience as a maintenance planner in a computerized maintenance management system. Other combinations of education/experience may be considered.
