SCOPE:
As a Geotechnical Engineer on the Horizon Oil Sands site, you work together with a team of Geotechnical professionals to produce designs and plans for construction and earthworks projects. These challenging projects will offer an intermediate engineer valuable experience collaborating with a group of highly talented technical professionals.
KEY AREA OF CONTRIBUTION:
• Coordination of Geotechnical design projects • Manage and monitor Tailings drilling program
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Planning and supervising field investigations • Evaluating geologic conditions and geotechnical characteristics for assessment of earth structures and pit-wall slopes • Performing slope stability and seepage analyses as necessary to establish safe slope design of earth structures and pit-wall slopes • Evaluating borrow suitability for earthwork construction • Preparing engineering reports and memos documenting analyses and recommendations • Presentation of results to mine planners, operations staff, senior management, and technical reviewers • Planning, implementing and assessing instrumentation programs to monitor performance of earth structures and pit-wall slopes
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION: Education & Experience:
• B.S.C.E Degree with specialization in Geotechnical Engineering
• A minimum of five years experience in Geotechnical Engineering such as field investigations, earthworks monitoring, slope stability analyses, seepage analyses, or instrumentation installation and monitoring. • Ability to develop and execute a plan for completing geotechnical design projects • Experience with Geotechnical conditions in the Fort McMurray region is desirable. • Efficient in calculations of slope stability, seepage, and settlement analyses. • Experience with Slope/W is an asset. • Ability to express thoughts clearly both verbally and in writing (grammar, spelling, organization, speaking ability, etc) • Experienced in preparation of complete and well organized engineering reports • Ability to work safely and effectively in the field without direct supervision, in the presence of heavy mining equipment.
