POSITION SUMMARY

CCS Corporation is currently looking for a permanent full-time Director, Taxation in our Calgary office. This position reports directly to the Vice President, Controller, and work’s closely with the Chief Financial Officer, the Executive Management team, Corporate and Divisional Controllers, the Business Development team and the private equity owners.


You will lead and manage all associated tax matters related to CCS’s business. Directing, advising and resourcing the taxation function for CCS, you will be responsible for defining tax objectives and strategies that optimize the organization’s tax profile, lead the review, analysis and strategy development of tax opportunities, and provide tax advice. Managing income tax positions and strategies and liaising with each of the divisions/business units to develop and maintain an ongoing knowledge of their tax positions, issues, and opportunities will also be required.




Specific Responsibilities and Accountabilities are to:



  • Define tax objectives and strategies that optimize the tax profile of CCS’s activities; plan and manage toward the timely achievement of these objectives.

  • Work with senior finance staff to develop processes that provide for timely and accurate reporting of tax matters applicable to CCS and each of its businesses and ensure compliance with corporate governance principles and audit requirements, including IFRS conversion processes.

  • Deliver timely preparation and filing of all tax returns. Co-ordinate the use of external advisors for the preparation of non-Canadian returns.

  • Lead the review, analysis and strategy development of tax opportunities associated with potential acquisitions and investments.

  • Ensure CCS and each of its Canadian, U.S. and other international entities meet all of their tax filing and remittance requirements.

  • Provide tax advice on CCS’ existing structure and all growth initiatives.

Other duties include:



  • Manage CRA relationships and develop the tax strategy and approach for taxation audits; respond to audits in a timely manner and keep the Vice President, Controller apprised of status of pending audits.

  • Manage and direct timely and accurate tax provisions for corporate reporting, budgets and forecasts.

  • Manage the overall income tax positions and strategies in each jurisdiction where CCS operates; make appropriate recommendations to optimize the tax position of CCS and tax efficiency of its inter-corporate and cross border funds flows.

  • Lead taxation risk management strategies, identify the risks and communicate them appropriately to senior management and the CCS Board.

  • Liaise with investor internal and external tax and other advisors as required in association with management and maintenance of investor structure.

  • Keep current of all existing and new tax legislation and regulation relevant to the Corporation and its businesses, in Canada, the United States and abroad; assess consequences and develop recommended strategies and actions in response to any new legislation. Develop and maintain contacts within the tax community.

Qualifications:



  • Post - Secondary Degree in Accounting.

  • Chartered Accountant designation, completion of CICA In-depth tax course.

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive tax experience, at least some of which was gained in the energy sector, involving complex tax structures.

  • Broad tax knowledge and experience that includes domestic, U.S. and international tax rules and regulations. Substantial knowledge and experience with cross-border tax structures, particularly between Canada and the U.S.

  • Experience in investigating and structuring acquisitions, capital projects, financings and supporting taxation audits and related settlements.

  • Ability to review and analyze the implications and ramifications of new tax legislation and develop creative solutions that minimize any associated tax consequences.

  • Expert with taxation financial reporting principles and concepts.

  • Coordinating outside resources including tax lawyers and accounting experts.

  • Strong computer skills including experience with tax models and familiarity with tax related software packages.
