POSITION SUMMARY

SCOPE:
As a key member of the Sustaining Capital Projects Team, the Planner/Scheduler will contribute to the overall success of the Bitumen Production area of Horizon Oil Sands by keeping the projects on time and on schedule with realistic and achievable planning and scheduling initiatives.


KEY AREA OF CONTRIBUTION:
• Oversee the day to day planning and scheduling activities
• Responsible for establishing and maintaining the various scheduling tools used by Canadian Natural such as master schedule, CPM networks and progress measurement systems for BP Sustaining Capital Projects.


MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Allocate resources to ensure planning and scheduling objectives of the team are met
• Participate in review of engineering, procurement and construction schedules
• Update project master schedules
• Review construction plans prepared by the contractor(s) to ensure that their proposed methods of installation are economical, practical and compatible with the design concepts. It is the Planner/Scheduler responsibility to help ensure the contractor provides appropriate construction execution plans and work activity schedules and that these are realistic and achievable
• Assist the contractor as well as the BP Construction Management Team (CMT) in the development of detailed schedules for all phases of construction to obtain the most effective utilization of workforce resources, materials and equipment
• Complete analyses of schedule, progress and workforce data and provide recommendations for corrective action whenever necessary
• Summarize monthly progress information, workforce and commodity statistics by rolling up contractor detailed data
• Assist in the preparation of schedules for Walk-Downs, TCCC, Commissioning & Start up
• Ensure timely decision making and responses for agreed upon action items, including Requests for Information (RFI) in areas of assigned responsibility
• Provide support to the Manager and Project Team on all progress and scheduling issues
• Prepare Area coordination schedules as required
• Periodically walk the job site to randomly verify physical progress compared to contractor’s progress reports
• Assist in ad hoc project work
• Assist Contract Administration and Cost Control in confirming the contractor[‘s monthly progress reports by checking the quantities shown in the invoices of contractors and vendors
• Participate in the regular onsite weekly progress review meetings with the contractors that are arranged and documented by the Contract Administrator
• Maintain a daily diary that includes items of important that may be relevant in settling contractual disputes regarding schedule progress that arise during the course of construction, pre-commissioning and turnover.


QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:
Education & Experience:
• Engineering degree with 10+ years experience in planning and scheduling role for the construction of oil refinery, upgrading, mining, power plants or similar industrial experience required – those with Bitumen Production construction experience will be given preference
• Strong understanding of current industry and construction procedures and standards
• Practical knowledge of multi-discipline operating functions related to construction field activities
• Proficiency with Primavera P3ec preferred (Microsoft Project beneficial)
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite
