Shell is currently seeking a Electrician - Shovel Maintenance* to work at the Fort McMurray Albian Sands mining project.
Responsibilities:
- Reporting to the Mine Maintenance Team Leader, this challenging position is required to provide safe, reliable and efficient maintenance of mine shovels with prime focus for the fleet of Bucyrus 495 electric shovels.
- Perform required maintenance activities safely as the first priority to all work and demonstrate proactive safety and environment leadership by example.
- Accountable to the delivery of the Maintenance Plan.
- Accountable to the consistent prioritization of field repairs issues in conjunction with the shift team lead.
- Operates machines to diagnose defects and position machines for maintenance.
- Inspects machines to diagnose defects, damage and excessive wear.
- Read and interpret electrical specifications to determine wiring layouts and coding accuracy.
- Position, maintain and install distribution and control equipment such as switches, relays, circuit breaker panels and fuse enclosures.
- Install, replace, maintain and repair electrical systems and related electrical equipment.
- Install data cabling, splice, join and connect wire to form circuits.
- Test circuits to ensure integrity and safety.
- Complete electronic shift logs
- Journey persons are expected to provide mentorship and care for apprentices.
Requirements:
- Experience working on large cable shovels, with preference for experience with Bucyrus 495 shovels.
- Removal, installation and repair of electrical components and systems.
- Inspection, testing and trouble-shooting of electrical components and systems.
- Low & High Voltage cable repair, testing and commissioning.
- Proficiency in English, both written and verbal.
- Well developed communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to coach and mentor others
- Good organizational and leadership skills.
- Ability to work in a flexible team environment as a contributing and essential team player.
- Enthusiastic, highly motivated self- starter with the ability to work on his or her own.
- Dedication to safe work and environmental responsibility
- Maintenance on a variety of equipment, responding to changing priorities, ensuring safe work practices are adhered to in an ever-changing environment, and ensuring effective communication with contacts within the Mining Department.
- Strong maintenance foundation including a sound technical knowledge of high voltage and electrical distribution networks.
- Strong problem solving skills.
- Trade and equipment related training.
- Basic computer skills.
- Thorough knowledge of electrical codes and standards.
- Valid drivers license.
- Work outdoors in a field environment with temperatures ranging from -45 degrees to +30 degrees.
- Positions are 12-hour shift based with dayshift and nightshift rotation requirements.
- Physical Effort: Moderate to strenuous – duties typically require incumbent to do normal sitting, standing, walking, etc. Mine site duties require incumbent to be able to climb, squat, kneel, lift and bend on a repetitive basis without strain.
- Mine Maintenance is a 24-hour continuous operation.
- Physical Environment: Job requires incumbent to spend extended periods outdoors exposed to various (sometimes harsh) climatic conditions involving large industrial earth-moving equipment and rough terrain.
- Sensory Attention: Normal sensory attention and diversity tasks. Regular radio contact requires acute hearing sensitivity. Extended hours may be required to meet production deadlines and respond to equipment/ process variables.
