POSITION SUMMARY

This position reports to the Project Health, Safety & Environmental Manager at the Bow Project for EnCana's 59-story, glass and steel high-rise office tower called "The Bow" in Calgary, Alberta. This position is an integral part of supporting and managing the project's Health, Safety and Environmental Protection Program within Ledcor Canadian Construction’s scope of work, primarily at the worksite level.

The Bow is Ledcor's largest Construction Management project in its history with the total construction value of the project in excess of $1Billion. Announced in 2005 by EnCana, North America's second largest natural gas producer, the project will house all 4,000 Calgary-based employees, currently located at five different sites throughout the city. With an estimated 1.9-million square-feet of total office space, the complex will be the City of Calgary's tallest structure.

Responsibilities
  • Perform regular worksite safety inspections throughout the assigned geographic work area on a routine basis.
  • Participate in development of Project Specific Safety Programs.
  • Provide consultative advice to project site personnel on interpretation of local government OH&S RegulationsProvide assistance to project site personnel to conduct worksite accident investigations, and in some circumstances take lead in the investigation process.
  • Communicate regularly with Project Manager of H, S & E and Project Superintendents in determining site safety needs and to act as a technical safety resource.
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities at the site level to promote safety and assist to resolve any issues of non-compliance.
  • Work with the Project Manager of HS&E and Project Superintendents regarding the review and implementation of Ledcor safety policies and procedures.
  • Provide assistance to the Project Manager of HS&E with matters related to injured workers claims and graduated return-to-work programs.
  • Conduct education and training to Ledcor employees in health and safety topics.
  • Active participation on Ledcor Construction’s Occupational Health and Safety Committee.
  • Perform annual health and safety audits of project worksites, both for internal safety award programs and local government incentive programs, such as the Provincial Certificate of Recognition (COR) programs.
Requirements
  • Have worked as a Project Safety Coordinator (or similar role) for a period of no less than five years.
  • Possess current and valid Health and Safety designation issued from an accredited organization within Canada, eg: CRSP, NCSO, CCA Gold Seal, etc.
  • Must have current First Aid and CPR tickets.
  • Have demonstrated technical knowledge of common construction practices, techniques and equipment related to commercial high rise construction.
  • Candidates with commercial structural steel high rise experience are preferred.
  • Familiarity with select Microsoft Office productivity computer programs.
  • Ability to physically traverse uneven ground, climb ladders and stairs, and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written / verbal communication skills.
  • Possess good problem solving and organizational skills.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality in all personnel and Ledcor business matters.
  • A self-starter and have the ability to work with minimal supervision.
