POSITION SUMMARY

SCOPE:
This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the safety and reliability of equipment in the Utilities and Services area. U&S is a life line to the successful operations of the Horizon Oil Sands plant. This opportunity will offer the challenge of participating in the initializing of the U&S Maintenance Strategy along with associated equipment. With the support and direction of the Electrical and Instrumentation Team Leads this role is the key technical resource directly supporting U&S maintenance, operations and utilities throughout the Horizon Project.


KEY AREA OF CONTRIBUTION:
The critical function of the E&I Maintenance Technician is to install, isolate, troubleshoot, clean, inspect, calibrate and maintain electrical equipment, instrumentation, Programmable Logic Controllers and Distributive Control Systems throughout the facility in a safe and professional manner.


MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Monitor and maintain equipment in the Utilities and Services area to ensure safe and efficient equipment and facility operation
• Ensure all Electrical and Instrumentation activities support the business needs
• Performs preventive, repair, and calibration maintenance safely and professionally with minimal supervision
• Anticipates typical problems, identifies potential or recurring problems, and takes appropriate action
• Troubleshoots equipment, diagnoses problems and carries out repairs
• Initiates and completes work orders and requisitions
• Works in cooperation with the Planning Team for work orders and follow up on repairs
• Documents all critical information on a routine basis
• Actively participates in team safety meetings & contributes to regular meetings between Maintenance and Operations to review work schedules and potential backlogs
• Takes proactive measures to address improvement opportunities


QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:
Education & Experience:
• Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
• A dual ticketed journeyman with inter-provincial status in the Electrical and Instrument Trade
• Experience as an on call shift Electrician/Instrumentation Technician
• Minimum four years experience in the oil sands and/or oil and gas, or related experience
• Experience with low, medium and high voltage electrical equipment
• Experience with large horsepower motors, starters and isolating equipment
• Experience with small and large horsepower VFD drives
• Experience with various PLC’S and program troubleshooting
• Experience with a plant-wide DCS system (preferably Delta V), vibration equipment and experience with JDE CMMS or other CMMS
• Experience with analyzers, field transmitters, control valves, Fieldbus and other communications protocol
• Experience with Steam and Gas Turbine generators and controls
• Computer experience including Microsoft Office

• Ensure Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is available and is worn where and when required.
