POSITION SUMMARY

SCOPE:


Horizon Oil Sands proudly uses the most advanced systems, equipment and technology. As an Instrumentation and Control Technologist, you will have the opportunity to shape how such initiatives are utilized. Providing technical expertise for the design, installation and maintenance of plant instrumentation and controls systems will be your key role. Acting as this prime source of valuable information and guidance, this position offers a challenge and level of accountability second to none.


KEY AREA OF CONTRIBUTION:


Support operations and other areas of the Plant utilizing your hands on and technical abilities.


MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide instrumentation specification, design/installation and commissioning/maintenance using INtools design tool for small plant additions. This includes wiring for the instruments.
• Provide hands on expertise to resolve application issues for water cut meters, refract meters, radar levels, product analyzers and nuclear instruments.
• Manage controls interfaces to the Delta V Distributed Control System (DCS) for optimizing plant operations.
• Troubleshooting and control systems changes.
• Provide assistance for instrumentation and control issues to the maintenance group, the sustaining capital group and the project group (in particular – OPP Train 3).


QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:
Education & Experience:
• Certified Technologist from a recognized educational facility (preferably in instrumentation and controls).
• Progressive experience in a large industrial plant is considered an asset.
• Foundation Fieldbus, ASi Networks, Modbus and DeviceNet applications experience are assets.
• P&ID plant controls design and HAZOP experience.
• Allen-Bradley PLC programming experience.
• Fiber Optic network expertise.

• Know and comply with all regulations and legislative requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act for the Province of Alberta and environmental standards

• Report unsafe acts and conditions;
• Ensure Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is available and is worn where and when required.
