Shell is currently seeking an Emergency Response Specialist* to work at the Fort McMurray Albian Sands mining project.
Responsibilities:
The Emergency Response Specialist is responsible for all duties pertaining to fire, rescue, emergency, and environmental hazards in accordance with Albian policies, standards, procedures and work practices. This position responds to all emergencies, assesses and applies the appropriate fire, rescue, and medical protocols including medical aid for Albian team members and contractor employees on Albian premises. - Ensure effective emergency response by providing professional application of skills and techniques at the emergency scene
- Respond to critical care needs associated with construction, operations and camp activities through both day and night shifts
- Provide leadership and training to operations fire and rescue team members and provide input into the effectiveness of the program
- Interface with site Medical Services and off-site medical providers
- Make fire code inspections of Albian facility infrastructure and prepare pre-fire plans
- Remain current with industry skills, education and practices involving fire, rescue and medical response
Requirements:
- Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full time basis for anyone other than current employer
- No "fly in, fly out" option is offered with this position. Relocation to Fort McMurray is required
- High School Diploma and 3 - 5 years related work experience
- Proficiency in English, both written and verbal
- Participate in on-going training and instruction programs through individual study of technical materials and attendance at scheduled training drills
- Assist in maintaining and repairing fire and emergency medical apparatus and equipment
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural and diversified team environment
- Open to accept new ways of doing things
- Certification in International Trauma Life Support ("ITLS")
- Registered with the Alberta College of Paramedics at the EMT-A level
- Valid Operator's Licence Class 3 & 4 with airbrake endorsement and a clean driver abstract
- Excellent communication, organizational and leadership skills and proficient in MS Office
- Previous experience with a public ambulance service in heavy industry, mining, oil and gas production or oil sands industry would be an asset
- Must be willing to train to the following levels:
- Firefighter Level 1 & II
- NFPA 1001
- NFPA 1081 Interior Structural
- NFPA 1003 Airport Firefighter
- NFPA 1002 Apparatus operator
- NFPA 472 Technician Level
- NFPA 1031 Fire Inspectors Training Level I
- NFPA 1035 Public Educator Level I
- NFPA 1041 Fire Service Instructor Level I
- ITLS Instructor Status
- Physical Effort: High. Duties will require incumbent to be able to climb, squat, kneel, lift, and bend on a repetitive basis without strain. In emergency situations will be required to push/pull/lift heavy loads.
- Physical Environment: Environment may include working within and around industrial processing equipment (including confined spaces), with possible exposure to environmental hazards such as extremely cold temperatures, steam, natural gas, chemicals, gasoline, diesel, lubricants and/or welding fumes; biological hazards such as blood borne pathogens.
- Sensory Attention: Normal sensory attention and diversity of tasks.
- Mental Stress: Medium to high. Maintain a calm and clear frame of mind in stressful situations.
