On the edge of the Arctic, in the heart of the wilderness, you will find Canada's premier diamond producer, Diavik Diamond Mine. Located 300 kms northeast of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Diavik has been an open pit mine since 2003 and received approval for its underground project in 2007. Our underground mine is currently in development, is due to go into production in 2009 and has a mine life extending into 2023. Going forward, the main methods of mining the three kimberlite pipes will be underhand cut and fill and blast hole stope.
Reporting to the Supervisor, Electrical and Instrumentation, the Electrician will be located at the Diavik Diamond Mine Site on a two (2) weeks on/two (2) weeks off rotational basis on day shift or night shift as assigned. The incumbent is responsible for performing planned and breakdown maintenance to electrical equipment in a safe, environmentally friendly and cost-effective manner to ensure that equipment availability is maximized.
The Electrician will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- Perform planned maintenance on electrical systems by scheduled due dates in a cost-effective, safe and environmentally friendly manner in order to maximize equipment availability;
- Safely troubleshoot and resolve equipment problems and conduct breakdown repairs within planned time frames without compromising the integrity of the equipment;
- Enter reports on maintenance, repairs and diagnoses into the preventative and predictive maintenance database prior to the end of each shift, providing sufficient detail for others to understand the work that has been completed on the equipment;
- Assist in the efficient commissioning of new installations and modifications, ensuring the equipment has been fully tested prior to operational implementation;
- Develop Electrician Apprentices, including delegating tasks or projects that will assist with their skill development, so the individual can provide greater support and meet apprenticeship requirements;
Above all, the successful candidate will be one whose #1 priority is safety in the workplace. The incumbent will have a Journeypersons Certification as an Electrician, Inter-provincial certification. Dual Journeyperson Certification as an Instrumentation Technician will be considered an asset. St. John's Standard First Aid Certification with CPR. Training on the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHIMS) and a minimum of three years of journeyperson experience working in a mining, processing or heavy manufacturing industry is required. Other combinations of education/experience may be considered.
