POSITION SUMMARY

Diavik Diamond Mines (DDMI) owns Rio Tinto's interest in and manages the unincorporated Diavik diamonds joint venture in the Northwest Territories of Canada. Mining takes place in the lake bed at Lac de Gras with water held back by a dike made of rock fill. With approximately 800 employees, Diavik is instrumental in making Canada the worlds third largest diamond producer by value. Diavik has won awards for its sensitive management of environmental and community issues.

Reporting to the Specialist, HSE Quality Management System (HSEQMS)Compliance, the Coordinator, HSEQMS willwork on two rotations: a five (5) days on / two (2) days off rotation basis at the Yellowknife Corporate Office and four (4) days on / three (3) daysoff rotational basis at the Lac De Gras Mine Site with a pickup point within the Northwest Territories. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating and maintaining programs related to DDMI's HSEQMS to ensure yearly ISO 9001 and 14001 certification is approved by external auditors. As part of this function, the incumbent will have a thorough practical knowledge of all Product Splitting Facility (PSF) operations and mine site activities.

Key aspects of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring that processes needed to maintain the HSEQMS management system are established and implemented;
  • Supporting and liaising with the Superintendent, PSF and Corporate office staff, regarding HSEQMS matters internally and externally;
  • Supporting the Specialist HSEQMS compliance to maintain the system;
  • Coordinating audits at the mine site, PSF and the corporate office;
  • Providing audit follow-up reports and action plans for correcting non-conformities to the standards being audited;
  • Scheduling management reviews as required by the standard to ensure the HSEQ management system is being implemented appropriately;
  • Providing HSEQ advice to the PSF Superintendent and Corporate office regarding changes in the management systems related to key quality aspects;
  • Writing formal corrective or preventive action plans;
  • Working with PSF staff to ensure proper control of all documentation related to the ISO 9001 program;
  • Promoting awareness of the HSEQMS to the mine site, corporate office;
  • Editing and formatting regulatory reports, letters and presentations as required;
  • Organizing and maintaining all HSEQ documentation such as regulatory correspondence, reports, authorizations and certificates;
  • Developing a thorough practicing knowledge of all PSF operations;
  • Supporting the Specialist HSEQMS Compliance to implement and maintain the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC)Certification;
  • Supporting the HSE Manager with the coordination of the HSEQMS and the responsible Jewellery Certification;

Above all, the successful candidate will be one whose #1 priority is safety in the workplace. The incumbent will hold a Post-Secondary Diploma and have more than three (3) years of experience coordinating ISO management systems or equivalent. Experience in the mining and industrial operations will be considered an asset.
