Function/Purpose:
The Fitness and Wellness Leader II is the first point of contact for users of the Collicutt Centre, and as such must be committed to personalized customer service of the highest standard. This involves conducting Fitness Centre orientations for patrons, as well as developing individual strength and conditioning programs for clients. The successful candidate will lead programs as required and have the opportunity to be involved in organizing, monitoring and evaluating programs as well. The City of Red Deer is committed to the highest standards in cleanliness and safety. This position is responsible for ensuring these standards are met through monitoring patron behaviour (i.e. safe equipment use) as well as performing basic custodial and maintenance tasks.
The ideal candidate will have excellent leadership skills and will be able to provide positive support and daily work direction to instructors and volunteers. Genuine commitments to Health and Wellness principles as well as the self-motivation to accomplish tasks in a timely manner are essential qualities in this position.
Job Requirements:
Grade 12 or equivalent.
2 year post secondary diploma in physical education, kinesiology or recreation.
AFLCA Resistance Training Certification (or equivalent certification from another recognized association).
AFLCA Group Exercise Certification (or equivalent certification from another recognized association).
Standard First Aid certification.
Possession of a valid Alberta Driver’s license.
1 year experience in a fitness centre instructing group exercise classes.
Exceptional customer service skills with the qualities to thrive within a team environment.
Demonstrated high level of verbal, written and listening skills.
Ability to instruct, motivate and encourage others.
Proven to be self-motivated with strong leadership skills.
Demonstrate punctuality, adaptability and flexibility.
Ability to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends is essential.

Hours of Work: Approximately 20 hours per week, between the hours of 5:00 am to 10:30 pm. Most shifts are likely to be evenings and weekends.
