POSITION SUMMARY

Diavik Diamond Mines (DDMI) owns Rio Tinto's interest in and manages the unincorporated Diavik diamonds joint venture in the Northwest Territories of Canada. Mining takes place in the lake bed at Lac de Gras with water held back by a dike made of rock fill. With approximately 800 employees, Diavik is instrumental in making Canada the world's third largest diamond producer by value. Diavik has won awards for its sensitive management of environmental and community issues.

Reporting to the Chief Metallurgist, the Graduate Metallurgical Engineer will work on a four (4) days on / three (3) days off rotational basis at the Lac De Gras Mine Site with a pickup point within the Northwest Territories. The incumbent is responsible for providing technical support in metallurgy to the process plant in order to ensure that plant employees are able to meet targets throughput, metallurgical recovery and product quality in a safe and cost effective manner.

Key aspects of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Tracking Process Plant operational efficiency;
  • Maintaining proper feed composition to the Process Plant;
  • Providing accurate process monitoring data;
  • Assisting the Process Plant Senior Metallurgist;
  • Assisting Process Plant Superintendents in building an efficient workforce;
  • Meeting personal safety plan commitments.

Above all, the successful candidate will be one whose #1 priority is safety in the workplace. The incumbent will hold a Bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering and be eligible for membership in NAPEGG. Northern mining experience will be considered as an asset.
